Five American Women Ranked in the Top 15 for the First Time Since May 2004

USTA (July 15, 2024) Five American women are ranked in the Top 15 of the latest WTA singles rankings, the first time for that since the week of May 24, 2004:

This latest benchmark comes on the heels of a Wimbledon fortnight that featured a number of American successes:

Pros:

  • A 20-year high of seven total players reached the Round of 16 in singles.
  • Multiple U.S. men reached the singles quarterfinals for the first time since 2000.
  • Taylor Townsend became the first American to win the Wimbledon women’s doubles title since Serena and Venus Williams in 2016.

Juniors:

  • Juniors Tyra Grant and Iva Jovic won the girls’ doubles title, while Alex Razeghi won the boys’ doubles title.
  • Over the last three years of Grand Slam junior boys’ and girls’ doubles events, nearly half have featured an American champion: six of the last 12 on the boys’ side and five of the last 12 on the girls’ side.
