Footage of a fan confusing Cam Newton for Jay-Z is gaining widespread attention

Video Of Fan Mistaking Cam Newton For Jay-Z Is Going Viral

Few ex-NFL players are in the spotlight more frequently than Cam Newton.

The former Carolina Panthers standout is quick to offer up his opinion on anything in the NFL universe, and he is a constant online presence.

Not to mention being perhaps the most fashion conscious player ever to suit up in the league.

Therefore, it must have come as quite the shock when Newton was recently mistaken for rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z by a fan at a large gathering.

Video footage posted by NFL insider Don Kleiman showed an obviously unhappy Newton strolling past the mistaken attendee and dismissing the excited exclamations about meeting a famous rapper.

The people apparently with Newton were clearly not thrilled by the mistaken identity.

He is a very recognizable figure and had a lengthy and, at times, brilliant NFL career, including in 2015 when he led the Panthers to a 15-1 regular season mark and a Super Bowl appearance.

The quarterback was named the NFL MVP for that season’s performance.

Newton also made three Pro Bowl squads and was an All-Pro.

However, he finished his NFL career with four consecutive losing seasons and was unable to find his footing again despite moving on to New England and then returning for an encore in Carolina.

Still, it is difficult to imagine a fan mistaking Newton for Jay-Z, and he apparently took issue with being misidentified at such a gathering.

After all, Newton remains a high-profile figure in the NFL even almost three years after his final appearance on the field.
