A lot of people were surprised and even shocked when Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence recently secured a historic contract in the form of a five-year, $275 million extension.
That deal is the richest in NFL history in terms of annual salary, along with the one the Cincinnati Bengals gave quarterback Joe Burrow.
While Burrow is seen by just about everyone as an elite signal-caller, Lawrence is viewed as residing a tier or two lower in the pantheon of NFL quarterbacks.
But Emmanuel Acho said on “Speak” that Lawrence will live up to the value of his contract, citing Jags head coach Doug Pederson’s past success in coaching the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship in the 2017 season.
.@EmmanuelAcho: I think Trevor Lawrence Lawrence will live up to his contract.

Perhaps Lawrence and the Jaguars will someday win it all, but right now, they don’t seem to have enough talent to do so.
Though they have a decent core with Lawrence, running back Travis Etienne Jr., wide receiver Christian Kirk and pass rusher Josh Hines-Allen, they don’t yet have the supporting pieces needed to go all the way.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who led Jacksonville in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2023, left in free agency this offseason, and the team is essentially replacing him with Gabriel Davis, who never had an 850-yard season while with the Buffalo Bills.
On the other hand, Lawrence hasn’t even turned 25 years old, so the franchise does have a little bit of time to build a roster that can become a true force.
