The Arizona Cardinals got to patiently wait during the 2024 NFL Draft to take the best wide receiver prospect in years in Marvin Harrison Jr.
The three teams ahead of the Cardinals all needed quarterbacks and the board predictably went that as the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots took Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, respectively.
It was a perfect storm for Arizona as they desperately needed a new No. 1 option in the passing game for Kyler Murray, and Harrison happened to be sitting there for them at No. 4.
At Ohio State, Harrison was a pass-catching phenom who could do anything on the field and is expected to be the Cardinals’ go-to option for years to come.
Son of Indianapolis Colts legend Marvin Harrison, the young wideout has had plenty of attention on him for a long time which is why his pre-draft process was fascinating to watch unfold.
Field Yates of ESPN noted how Harrison’s approach to the pre-draft process might be a template for other highly-touted prospects going forward via the Ross Tucker Podcast.
“He could be the disruptor,” Yates said.

Could more prospects skip the pre-draft process like Marvin Harrison Jr. did if he has a big rookie season? @FieldYates explains: pic.twitter.com/nFwBTtTD8I

Yates noted that Harrison only chose to weigh in at the NFL Combine and not participate in any of the drills, a peculiar choice that had some wondering whether or not he was trying to hide any deficiencies.
However, his choice to skip out on drills didn’t hurt his draft stock which means prospects down the line could go the same route if they’re truly good enough to be an impact player on Day 1.
