Forecasts from golf experts for the Sunday singles matches at the 2024 Presidents Cup

Expert predictions for Sunday singles at 2024 Presidents Cup

The United States will enter Sunday singles, the last session of the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club, with a 11-7 lead over the International Team.

Patrick Cantlay fought the setting sun and buried a clutch birdie putt on the 18th hole on Saturday afternoon to boost him and partner Xander Schauffele over Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim. Team Kim has given the Internationals a massive amount of energy over the first three days of competition but will have to do it alone on Sunday.

Before the action gets underway, Golfweek’s Adam Schupak and Riley Hamel have made their picks for the closing session.

Here are picks for all Sunday singles matches at the Presidents Cup.

Adam Schupak: Schauffele said on Saturday he’s got a little dog in him and I think he’s just got a little more dog in him than Day, who is rested after the day off but won’t have enough firepower for world No. 2.

Riley Hamel: Xander was locked in Saturday afternoon and now has the opportunity to give Team USA a quick start up four points. Give me X.

Adam Schupak: Sam Burns is the only player undefeated this week. He’s shown more moxie than in his previous two team experiences and is the right guy to go toe-to-toe with Tom the Tank.

Riley Hamel: Has to be TK, right? He’s been electric all week and thrives in this environment. Point for the Internationals.

Adam Schupak: This is a box-office blockbuster. I hope the match still hangs in the balance on 18. Scottie’s been a little off his usual game and so I think Hideki can grind out at least a half point and perhaps a full one if his putter comes through.

Riley Hamel: Scottie. I have to go with Scottie. He turned it on for the last 10 or so holes Saturday and he’s going to carry that over into the last session.

Riley Hamel: I’m taking Sungjae here. He’s had some special moments already this week and I think he gets another one on Sunday with a win.

Riley Hamel: Patty Ice. He’s cold. He’s a killer. I’ll take Cantlay.

Adam Schupak: Si Woo is a Presidents Cup star the last two times. There will be a lot of passion in this one. Si Woo may get another chance to use his Steph Curry sleep time move because he’s going to win another point.

Riley Hamel: Si Woo, shaking that ass. He’s going to take down the U.S. Ryder Cup captain on Sunday.

Adam Schupak: Conners has played better this Presidents Cup but he’s still been let down by the putter while Finau continues to perform admirably in team competition. It will be close but I like Finau.

Riley Hamel: Two fantastic ball strikers. Two players who can go cold with the putter. Give me the Canadian on home soil.

Adam Schupak: Clark has run into some great putting performances in his losses and I think he’s drawn a tough assignment in Min Woo Lee, who has to be pissed that he has only played once and will show Captain Mike Weir he made a mistake by delivering a full point.

Riley Hamel: The chef is going to cook. He sat out all of Saturday and will be well-rested for one final battle.

Adam Schupak: It must have stunk to have to sit all day Saturday for An and Theegala. I see Sahith, with a Mongolian Reversal along the way, getting the W.

Riley Hamel: Going with the rookie, Theegala. I think he can thrive in this environment. He’s going to make an early Ryder Cup case during singles.

Adam Schupak: This is one of my favorite matches and I hope it still matters because it could be a turning point if it does. Scott is so desperate for this win and he’s going to leave it all out there for his teammates and get a point.

Riley Hamel: Scott has played some beautiful golf so far this week and that will continue on Sunday with a win over Morikawa.

Adam Schupak: This could be a pillow fight between two players who have been a bit off their game. My head says C Bez is the pick but my heart tells me Harman is too gritty a competitor to not find some way to win. Harman in a close one.

Riley Hamel: If the Georiga Bulldogs win Saturday, give me Harman. If not, still give me Harman. He’ll be angry about losing to Alabama again.

Adam Schupak: I’ve seen Max will himself into doing some pretty cool things in the last couple of team competitions and even think of him making the cut at the British Open in July. That said, he drew a Canadian who is a gamer too and while Homa isn’t Tiger Woods, this will be like Weir’s Pyrrhic victory in Sunday singles at Royal Montreal in 2007.

Riley Hamel: It’d feel wrong to go against Max. So I’m not going to. Homa will get the job done here.
