Former Coach of Federer Warns Against Underestimating Sinner’s Hip Injury

There are concerns that Jannik Sinner may miss the French Open due to a hip injury, according to Ivan Ljubicic.

Sinner has decided not to participate in this year’s Italian Open in Rome, which precedes the French Open. He was expected to be the second seed but withdrew due to a hip injury sustained in Madrid.

Ljubicic, former coach of Roger Federer, cautions that Sinner’s injury should not be taken lightly, especially since his participation in Roland Garros is now in doubt.

Ljubicic highlights how the surface change from concrete to clay has impacted players like Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who also withdrew from the Rome tournament due to injury.

“The change of surface from concrete to clay presents challenges for players with hip or arm issues, like Sinner and Alcaraz,” said Ljubicic.

“Players are more cautious this year due to the upcoming Olympics and are attentive to their body’s signals,” added Ljubicic.

Ljubicic emphasizes that players are being more cautious this season with major events like Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the Olympics on the horizon, as seen by the increased withdrawals in recent tournaments.
