The New England Patriots will walk into the 2024 NFL season with a completely different look on the sidelines.

The Patriots parted ways with long-time head coach Bill Belichick and promoted linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to replace him.

Meanwhile, the team promoted DeMarcus Covington to be their new defensive coordinator and hired former Los Angeles Rams assistant special teams coach Jeremy Springer to become their special teams coordinator.

As for offensive coordinator, the Patriots hired Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

Van Pelt has been around the league for decades and has a wealth of knowledge for offensive schemes and systems, a crucial element to add to first-time head coach Mayo’s staff.

However, New England appears to be fortifying their offensive coaching ranks as they’re considering bringing in former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, via Albert Breer of The MMQB.

“The Patriots are in talks to add ex-Giants coach Ben McAdoo to their offensive staff, per sources. He’s likely to play an assistant head coach type of role, and help OC Alex Van Pelt on that side of the ball,” Breer reported.

McAdoo was the Giants’ head coach for the 2016 and 2017 seasons and most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2022.

Like Van Pelt, McAdoo’s got extensive experience working with offenses and would be an interesting add to his staff.

New England’s offense should look vastly different in 2024 after a dismal 2023 showing, and McAdoo could play a large part in their turnaround if he ends up taking the job.
