Former Manchester United ace praises “not normal” Red Devils transfer target

Former Manchester United ace Angel Gomes has heaped praise onto his teammate Leny Yoro at Lille, amid some transfer rumours linking the talented young French defender with the Red Devils and other big clubs.

Man Utd have been linked as one of a number of admirers of Yoro by our columnists Fabrizio Romano and Jonathan Johnson, and it seems Gomes is a huge admirer of his, based on what he’s seen from him even at this early stage of his career.

Gomes notes that he felt the difference from youth team football and senior football when he first made the step up during his time at Old Trafford, he doesn’t seem to think Yoro had any of those problems when he rose up from Lille’s academy into their first-team.

That bodes well for United if they move for him, with the 18-year-old looking like he’d be a fine addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad as a long-term replacement for ageing duo Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, who have been in and out of the starting XI this season.

Leny Yoro has shone for Lille

“As soon as he arrived in the group, I understood that he was going to reach the summits,” Gomes told Eurosport, as quoted by Sport Witness.

“When I discovered the pros at the age of 16 at Manchester United, I understood that it was different. He already had the right temperament.

“And that’s not normal for a 16- or 17-year-old player arriving. It’s like he’s already an experienced player.”

United haven’t always done well to snap up the best young talents in the game in recent times, but Yoro seems like someone who could make perfect sense as a signing for the start of a new era at the club under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
