Former Manchester United prospect Alvaro Carreras catches attention of Liverpool – Latest Updates on Man United Transfers

Ex-Manchester United talent Alvaro Carreras attracts interest from Liverpool - Man United News And Transfer News

Liverpool are reportedly interested in former Manchester United left-back Alvaro Carreras.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Noussair Mazraoui underwent a “minor precautionary corrective procedure”. He is expected to be available for selection within the next few weeks, but as things stand, United have only one senior fit full-back in their ranks.

In the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Diogo Dalot has largely played as a left-back this season. However, if Mazraoui fails to return immediately after the international break, Ten Hag will face another selection headache.

While United grapple with a full-back crisis, one of their former left-backs, Carreras, is shining at Benfica.

The 21-year-old United academy product left England for Portugal in January of this year on loan. Further, Benfica reportedly found an agreement to include a €6 million clause to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer.

Carreras took little time to impress the coaches at Benfica, leading to the Primeira Liga club exercising the option this summer and adding the young defender to their ranks on a permanent basis. They further handed a long-term contract until 2029 to the youngster.

However, his impressive start to the new season under Bruno Lage has sparked interest from Europe’s elite clubs.

According to AS, Liverpool have “shown the greatest interest” in the Spaniard’s situation, as they search for Andrew Robertson’s long-term replacement at left-back.

It is claimed the Merseyside outfit admire Carreras’ skill-sets and potential. Additionally, the fact he boasts previous experience in English football has only made him more appealing, as this would allow him to adapt to Liverpool’s style comfortably.

Carreras did not make any senior appearance for the Red Devils, but he played in the Championship with Preston North End during the 2022-23 campaign.

As per A Bola, the Spain U21s international’s contract includes a release clause understood to be worth €50 million.

Liverpool are not the only club monitoring Carreras’ progress. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are all following the left-back, who is developing rapidly at Benfica.
