Frankie Luvu aims to energize the rejuvenating Commanders franchise

Frankie Luvu wants to put a charge into the rebuilding Commanders

Frankie Luvu’s body is almost entirely covered in tattoos that mark his past and hint at his future. Among these, one of the smallest yet most significant tattoos sits below his left ear – a rectangle with a bolt in the center. This symbol represents Luvu’s always-charged battery, showcasing his aggressive playing style and boundless energy that have made him a key player for the Washington Commanders as they embark on a rebuilding phase.

During the offseason, the Commanders signed Luvu to a three-year deal worth up to $36 million, highlighting their belief in his ability to help shape the team’s new direction. General Manager Adam Peters praised Luvu’s leadership qualities and versatile skill set, lauding him as more than just a team player who brings effort and cohesion to the locker room.

Luvu’s athleticism and ferocious playing style have not gone unnoticed by experts like Greg Cosell, who describes him as an all-around linebacker who excels in various aspects of the game. Despite already having six seasons of NFL experience, Luvu views himself as a young player with much left to achieve and learn in the league.

Having traveled a long way from his native American Samoa to pursue a football career, Luvu credits his success to mentors like former NFL player and coach Joe Salave’a. Salave’a played a pivotal role in guiding Luvu through his college years and helped him make the transition to the professional level, emphasizing the importance of hard work and consistency.

Throughout his career, Luvu has valued the guidance and teachings of veteran players and coaches, including the late Hall of Famer Kevin Greene. Greene’s lessons on professionalism and attention to detail have left a lasting impact on Luvu, shaping his approach to the game and his daily routines.

Now a key player for the Commanders and a trusted leader on defense, Luvu continues to embody the qualities instilled in him by his mentors. As he looks ahead to the future, he remains committed to growth and development, refusing to settle for complacency despite his years of experience in the league. With his energy and passion for the game, Luvu is poised to make a significant impact as Washington works towards establishing a winning culture.
