Frederick, Spicer, Dowd headline top selections of 2024 MLS Draft


The 2024 MLS Draft has come and gone with several of tomorrow’s stars finding their homes for the future.

Wayne Frederick, Tyrese Spicer, and Bryan Dowd headlined the top draft picks on Tuesday night. The Colorado Rapids had two of the top four overall selections in the first round with Frederick and Kimani Stewart-Baynes both heading to Chris Armas’ squad.

Dowd was the first goalkeeper taken in the MLS Draft, heading to the Chicago Fire with the No. 6 overall pick. Lipscomb University was well represented in the Top 10 with both Spicer (No. 1, Toronto FC) and Malachi Jones (No. 8, NYCFC) being selected.

The top five picks were rounded out by Oregon State University forward Logan Farrington being selected by FC Dallas at No. 3 and Washington University defender Nate Jones heading to Austin FC at No. 5.

A total of 87 players were selected in Tuesday’s action, which surpassed the entire total of the 2023 MLS Draft.
