Game Preview: Manchester Giants look to move into Playoff spots with win over Bristol Flyers

Game Preview: Manchester Giants look to move into Playoff spots with win over Bristol Flyers

The Manchester Giants will be looking to move into the British Basketball League’s Playoff spots when they welcome the Bristol Flyers.

Meanwhile, the Bristol Flyers will be aiming to make it three wins on the bounce and continue their push for a top four finish.

Bristol know that victory will move them level on 11 wins with the Caledonia Gladiators.

Manchester need the win to ensure that they don’t fall too far behind the Surrey Scorchers, who currently sit in eighth place.

All to play for

The Giants won a crucial game against the Scorchers last week allowing them to move closer to the top eight.

But that was followed by a close loss to the Gladiators three days later, which leaves them one win behind the Scorchers and two behind the Leicester Riders.

The Flyers are going through a hot period, having won two consecutive games, following a string of disappointing losses.

Their two-point win over the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks might have been the catalyst for Coach Kapoulas’s team to turn things around, as they followed that with a comfortable win over the Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles.

Those two results have left Bristol one win behind the Gladiators in third and two behind the Cheshire Phoenix in second.

Home-court disadvantage

The two sides have already faced-off against each other twice this season.

The Flyers visited the North-West in October and took down their opponents, 87-91.

The Giants nearly managed to overcome an 18-point deficit, but the Flyers — led by Te’Jon Lucas’ 17 points — managed to hold on.

In the reverse fixture a month later in Gameweek 10, Manchester travelled south and returned the favour, beating Bristol 68-74 on their home court.

With both teams having the third and fourth lowest offences in the League, this could be a low-scoring game, decided by fine margins.

Jamell Anderson and Tevin Olison are leading their respective teams with 15.2 points each on average, and their offensive output could prove to be the key behind who wins.

With both teams chasing either home court advantage or a Playoff spot, expect this to be a close game with everything left on the court.
