Current Championship leaders London Lions will face off to second-place Cheshire Phoenix in a British Basketball League showdown at the Copper Box.
London will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table to six wins and put some real daylight between themselves and their opponents.
Cheshire will want to close that gap to four wins and inflict the Lions’ fourth loss of the season.
Best of the best
The two sides are top of the table for a reason, having suffered just eight defeats between them in 37 games.
Both teams are coming off two consecutive wins and are in fine form.
The Lions have won three of their previous five, defeating the Plymouth City Patriots and the Leicester Riders last week.
The Phoenix have won four out of their last five, comfortably beating the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks last week.
This will be the first of two games for both teams over the weekend as London will face off against the Manchester Giants, and Cheshire will welcome the Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles.
This could result in managed minutes between the two squads as Coach Božić and Coach Thomas will be looking to get two wins out of two this week.
Revenge or three-peat
The two teams have played against each other already twice this season.
On both occasions the Lions came out on top, first in Gameweek 3 winning 82-91 away, and then in Gameweek 5 defeating the Phoenix 99-80 at home.
To avoid a third loss to the Lions, Cheshire need to be at the top of their game and restrict London’s offence, primarily Matt Morgan who leads the League in scoring with 19.6 points per game.
The two sides are at the top of the table for a reason, and that reason is their offence.
They both average the most points per game, with the Lions on 93.4 and the Phoenix on 90.7.
Their previous matchups this season have seen an average of 176 points scored between them, so expect another high-scoring game.
With first taking on second, expect this to be a close game – a prospective preview of this season’s Playoff Final.
