Gauff Among Women Who Dominated Events Economy Thanks To Increased US Open Ticket Sales

Gauff Among Women Who Dominated Events Economy Thanks To Increased US Open Ticket Sales

Coco Gauff‘s historic US Open win in September has earned global acclaim, and she was among the women who dominated this year’s events economy.

This is according to a report by StatHub – an online ticket marketplace – which tables a year-end report showcasing women’s impact in generating sales across live entertainment, including concerts and sporting events.

Gauff’s spontaneous rise last season saw her bag three titles during the US swing, including her maiden Grand Slam in New York, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

She became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams over two decades ago.

The young American’s seismic win has earned her a seat at the table as some of the most revered women in different live entertainment genres, like pop music stars Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Adele. Gauff is credited for driving the average ticket price for this year’s US Open women’s final.

When Gauff defeated Karolina Muchova in the semifinal, there was an instant 20% increase in ticket sales and a 40% rise compared to the 2022 edition of the US Open. Additionally, courtside tickets inside Arthur Ashe for the final cost as much as $20,000, while nosebleed seats fetched over $700.

Aside from the legendary Serena Williams making back-to-back finals in 2018 and 2019 as a returning mother, American women’s tennis had experienced years of underperforming at home Slams.

But Gauff changed that narrative as she ended a six-year drought for a home champion. The 2023 US Open women’s final was the most-watched women’s Grand Slam final ever on the American sports network ESPN.

It was watched by 3.4 million people in the United States. It was also the highest-streamed match of the tournament on ESPN+.

And because of her burgeoning rise (currently ranked at a career-high ranking of World No. 3) and personality, Gauff’s brand has already appealed to many sponsors. She was recently named the highest-paid female athlete of 2023, netting $16 million through endorsements.
