Gauff on Track for Potential Showdown with Raducanu; Sabalenka and Swiatek Confront Tough Paths at Indian Wells

Gauff on Track for Potential Showdown with Raducanu; Sabalenka and Swiatek Confront Tough Paths at Indian Wells

The draw for the WTA 1000 event at the 2025 Indian Wells Open has been released. Once again, fans can look forward to plenty of exciting matches.

Unlike on the men’s side, where the Indian Wells Open is the first tournament of the 1000 category in the season, women will already play their third WTA 1000 tournament this year.

The first two WTA 1000 tournaments brought two surprising winners. Amanda Anisimova won the Qatar Open in Doha, while Mirra Andreeva won the Dubai Championships. Of course, both of them will compete in Indian Wells as well.

17-year-old Andreeva is the ninth seed, and like all seeded players in Indian Wells, she has a first-round bye. In the second round, the teenager will await the winner of the match between two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Varvara Gracheva.

Anisimova is the 17th seed at the event, and like Andreeva, she can also play against one of the mothers on the WTA Tour in the second round. In fact, the American will certainly play against a mother, as her second-round opponent will be either Belinda Bencic, who received a wild card, or Tatjana Maria.

Although it would be sensational if one of these two players managed to win a WTA 1000 tournament again, the top favorites will be the same as at most of these tournaments.

Aryna Sabalenka leads the field as the top seed. The Belarusian player will await the winner of the match between Anna Blinkova and McCartney Kessler in the second round of the event.

On the opposite side of the draw is a two-time champion of this event, Iga Swiatek. The Pole is the second seed, and she can meet Caroline Garcia or Bernarda Pera in the second round.

That is a challenging draw for Swiatek, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to how difficult the draw is for the third-seeded Coco Gauff. The 2023 US Open champion can take on fellow winner of the New York Slam, Emma Raducanu. The British player will play against Moyuka Uchijima in the first round.

Like always, there are also many exciting first-round matches at this WTA 1000 event. Naomi Osaka is a player that everyone wanted to avoid. The four-time Grand Slam champion was drawn against Maria Camila Osorio. The winner of this match will then play an in-form Clara Tauson in the second round.

Jessica Pegula is in great form as well. She won the title in Austin and will come to Indian Wells as the fourth seed. The American player can meet compatriot Peyton Stearns or Magda Linette in the second round.
