Gauff triumphs over Boulter in Beijing as Pegula and Badosa progress despite rainy conditions at the China Open

Beijing | Gauff beats Boulter, as Pegula and Badosa also advance on a rainy day at the China Open

World No 6 Coco Gauff advances to China Open 4th round with win over Katie Boulter

Playing securely under the roof, Gauff came through a very tight first set, and eased to the finish in a straight-sets win over Boulter, the 26th seed.

In a battling performance, Boulter tested the 4th seed, but Gauff managed to snatch the first set before wrapping up the win in the second to face either Naomi Osaka or Katie Volynets in the Last 16.

After narrowly dropping the gruelling opening set, Pegula had managed to regroup to clinch the 2-hour and 39-minute win.

Pegula will next face No 15 seed Paula Badosa of Spain in the round of 16, who earlier on Sunday, scored a hard-fought 7-5 7-5 win over qualifier Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia.
