Belgian side Genk welcomed a new American talent to their squad on Wednesday, following the departure of Mark McKenzie this summer.
Kayden Pierre has joined Genk in a permanent deal from MLS club Sporting KC. Both clubs have confirmed the transfer, with Sporting KC receiving an undisclosed fee for Pierre’s services. Additionally, they will also be entitled to a sell-on fee if Pierre is transferred to another club in the future.
The 21-year-old midfielder came through the Sporting KC academy and signed a homegrown contract in 2021. Pierre has made 34 appearances for SKC and an additional 42 appearances for Sporting KC II from 2020 to 2024.
Hailing from Michigan, Pierre has represented the U.S. Under-20 men’s national team, earning three caps since making his debut in 2021.
Pierre will be a valuable addition to Genk’s squad as they aim to secure their first title since 2021. Currently sitting fifth in the Belgian Pro League standings, Genk is set to resume league action on September 14 against Cercle Brugge.
