Getafe in discussions with Manchester United over potential transfer deal for Mason Greenwood – Player’s future still uncertain

Manchester United open to recalling Mason Greenwood should suitable offer not arrive - Man United News And Transfer News

Mason Greenwood’s future at Manchester United is set to dominate the agenda in the summer with the rumour mill churning a new report every day.

Already, conflicting reports have arisen and nobody is quite sure where his future lies, especially after Sir Jim Ratcliffe was non-committal about his return to Old Trafford.

Amidst all the noise, The Athletic have now given a big update on the player.

The Athletic report that Getafe have officially opened talks to sign Greenwood on loan for another year.

United are focused on securing a permanent sale and a transfer fee for the player but remain open to a loan move if the required fee can’t be received.

His contract expires in 2025 but with the club having an option to extend it by a year, they can safely send him on loan and explore the market again next summer.

However, a big update in the report is that United are not ruling out a reintegration to the first team of the player.

That door looked to be firmly closed after the club’s haphazard attempts to bring him back went awry and they were forced into a drastic action in the face of intense backlash.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, however, has already stated a new decision will be made on the situation which is why his stay can’t be ruled out.

In any case, United can take a lot of encouragement that a player who looked like a distressed asset on the books after the disastrous U-turn last summer is a valued commodity now.

They no longer need to “get rid” of him when they have got all the options of the table – a team willing to take him back on loan, interest for a permanent transfer by clubs, and a minor chance of a potential reintegration.

A final decision is not made yet, but at least there’s is a decision to be made now, a situation United couldn’t have foreseen after the events of last summer.
