Getafe President Angel Torres Confirms Barcelona’s Interest in Mason Greenwood – Latest Updates on Manchester United’s Transfer News

Manchester United open to recalling Mason Greenwood should suitable offer not arrive - Man United News And Transfer News

Getafe president Angel Torres claims FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has asked him about the future of Manchester United loanee, Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood’s season-long loan at Getafe came after a lengthy suspension due to criminal charges having been laid against him, charges that were subsequently dropped.

Despite a slow start to the loan spell after many months without football, Greenwood hit his stride and has become a potent force in La Liga, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists in 32 games.

Greenwood’s returning to United at the end of the season is a political hot potato for new part-owners INEOS, with many fans, staff and players uncomfortable about giving him a second chance after the alleged rape and assault of his girlfriend.

This has alerted many clubs to the possibility of a cut-price deal for the 22 year old, with United reportedly looking at a figure of around £30 million for the former Golden Boy nominee.

Getafe themselves have openly campaigned to keep Greenwood on loan another year, but with United preferring a sale, president Torres has admitted it is complicated.

“If it depends on the parents and the club, I think he will continue for another year,” he said to Radio Marca via fichajes.com.

“Manchester’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. I think he will stay.”

Moreover, asked to confirm if there was any truth in Atletico Madrid’s interest in the England man, Torres revealed interest from elsewhere.

“No one from Atleti has asked me about Greenwood,” he said. “I spoke with Miguel Ángel (Gil), but about other things.

“The only one who asked me about the player in that sense was Joan Laporta [president of FC Barcelona], but first you have to sell to sign, that’s the problem of Spanish football.”

Barcelona’s financial problems are, of course, legend in football circles and they would seem unlikely even to be able to raise £30 million. However, with United reportedly coveting some of their own stars, including Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, it is not unfeasible that some sort of player exchange could be worked out.
