Getafe Shift Focus from Mason Greenwood to Real Madrid’s Arda Guler – Manchester United Transfer Update

Manchester United open to recalling Mason Greenwood should suitable offer not arrive - Man United News And Transfer News

La Liga outfit Getafe appear to have ended their pursuit of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood and are believed to already be plotting a move for his replacement.

Greenwood spent the entirety of the 2023/24 season on loan with Getafe as he sought to escape his troubles in England and to reignite his career.

His loan spell was a success. The 22-year-old plundered an impressive 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions on his way to winning the club’s Player of the Season award.

Greenwood was an almost ever-present player for Jose Bordalas as he helped Getafe finish in 12th place in La Liga. Unsurprisingly, Getafe were repeatedly mentioned to be keen on either another loan or a permanent stay for the Carrington academy graduate.

The problem for Getafe is that Greenwood’s performances also piqued the interest of a number of elite European clubs, with far deeper pockets than them. The likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are all understood to have the Englishman on their radar.

A report covered by The Peoples Person related that Greenwood would prefer a return to Estadio Coliseum. However, if an update provided by Spanish publication AS is anything to go by, it seems like Greenwood will not get his wish.

The news outlet points out that the United man playing for Getafe is out of the question amidst the Red Devils’ desire to sell him for a fee in the region of €40m – €50m. This sum is out of reach for Getafe.

AS note, “Without Greenwood, who has given such a good performance at the Coliseum, where he has revalued himself, Getafe is looking for a replacement with that profile: a quality player who does not have a starting place in a world-class team.”

“Arda Güler fits that profile. The Turk played 12 games last season, scoring six goals. Ten of those games were in the League, one in the Cup and another in the Super Cup, although it is true that the majority of his league appearances were in the final stretch of the championship when Ancelotti rested his starters.”

“Arda Güler has no place in Madrid’s starting eleven next season. At Getafe, on the other hand, a team would be formed around him.”

Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Las Palmas and Mallorca are also chasing Guler and it remains to be seen whether Getafe go back in for Greenwood in the event that they miss out on the Real Madrid youngster.

It’s important to consider that Greenwood staying at United is also not a foregone conclusion. It was previously relayed that if United fail to seal a transfer for their homegrown star by June 30, it’s possible that he may be reintegrated back into training at Old Trafford.
