Gianluca Busio seals 100th Venezia appearance with game-winning goal

Gianluca Busio’s memorable day with Venezia was capped off with the American midfielder delivering the winning goal for the club. 

Busio scored the winning goal Saturday in a 2-0 Serie A victory over Genoa. Saturday marked Busio’s 100th career appearance for the club. 

After a goal-less first half, Busio delivering the breakthrough moment for Venezia after the hour mark. His right-footed strike nestled into the bottom-right corner for a 1-0 lead after 63 minutes.

Venezia would ice its first win of the season as Joel Pohjanpalo finished off John Yeboah’s assist five minutes from time. 

Busio played 89 minutes in the match, creating two offensive chances, winning four duels, and drawing two fouls. 

The 22-year-old only recently returned to action after being sidelined through injury. 

Venezia closes its September schedule on Sept. 29 at AS Roma.
