Giants Grab Malik Nabers, Vikings Get J.J. McCarthy At 11, and Lions Take Cooper DeJean

This is it. An entire offseason of speculation comes to one tremendous finale. With my last 2024 NFL Mock Draft, it was only right to try and get this thing as close to perfect as I could.

We look at the offseason notes, read through the tea leaves, ignore the smokescreens, and come up with the absolute best mock draft possible, as we’re less than a week until the start of the NFL‘s annual selection event.

2024 NFL Mock Draft | Round 1

1) Chicago Bears (From CAR): Caleb Williams, QB, USC

From start to finish, this pick has never wavered for me. Despite the nonsense throughout the process, it was always Caleb Williams for the Chicago Bears. Their offseason moves have made one thing apparent: it’s a new era in the Windy City.

2) Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

The Washington Commanders have been big-time players in free agency, and their approach reeks of a team ready to add a young quarterback to their roster, which seems to be the play here.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter said he believes Jayden Daniels should be “penciled in” at the No. 2 spot. In my mind, he enters the league with a new regime in Washington that looks eager to compete from Day 1, putting him in the best position to succeed.

3) New England Patriots: Drake Maye, QB, UNC

It would be hard to look at the New England Patriots quarterback situation right now and decide to pass on one of the top-tier options that are sure to be available to them with the No. 3 pick. While there may be a debate about who they like more, Drake Maye is the right selection.

There are no guarantees that Maye will work out, but an uncertain future feels more encouraging if you have a young quarterback to help lead the way. The Patriots have options here, but they stand pat in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft and take their quarterback.

4) Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

It’s been apparent for most of the 2024 NFL Draft process that three quarterbacks would occupy the first three selections, leaving the Arizona Cardinals as a major winner. They’re set to inherit Marvin Harrison Jr. as a dynamic wide receiver for an offense that needs one. The top player on the PFN Big Board, he’s a Day 1 impact-maker and go-to weapon for Kyler Murray.

5) Los Angeles Chargers: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Malik Nabers is a playmaker in every sense of the word. If Harrison weren’t in it, Nabers would easily be the WR1 in the class, and some still believe he could be. The Chargers gladly replenish their WR room with a dynamic talent who has a chance to shine out the gate.

6) New York Giants: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

Joe Alt is a physically gifted offensive lineman who will be an immediate starter in any offense, and the New York Giants are the beneficiary in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.

New York has been rumored to want a QB here, but that feels more like talk than fact at this point. The G-Men stand pat and take the best OT in the draft class.

7) Tennessee Titans: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State

The Tennessee Titans’ offensive line is upgraded in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft with the selection of Olu Fashanu. They get protection for Will Levis and give offensive line coach Bill Callahan another talented tackle to mold.

8) Atlanta Falcons: Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama

Dallas Turner will provide a real weapon to the pass rush in Atlanta. The Falcons add a skilled edge defender with outstanding athletic traits to a team putting together a quality offseason.

The franchise could select a WR here or even grab some secondary help, but Turner gives them a much-needed pass rusher.

9) Chicago Bears: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

With the selection of Williams, the Bears got their quarterback of the future. Now, they have another outside weapon alongside DJ Moore and Keenan Allen to help their new signal-caller in his rookie campaign.

Rome Odunze is a highly productive college wide receiver nearly as explosive as the two guys who went before him. The Washington standout has a chance to make an instant impact on a team that looks to be making some exciting moves.

10) New York Jets: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

The tight end position is an interesting one. Brock Bowers is a top-five talent who could slip down the 2024 NFL Draft order based solely on perceived positional value.

The Jets are in win-now mode and take the best player available in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, adding an elite weapon to the mix for Aaron Rodgers. Bowers helps round out an already quality New York passing game.

11) Minnesota Vikings: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

In many mock drafts, the Vikings have moved up to get their guy, which many assume to be J.J. McCarthy. In this situation, they don’t make the draft-changing move, stand pat, and still get their guy. With opinion divided on the Michigan Wolverines quarterback, there is a legitimate chance that the Vikings might not need to give up their recently acquired second Day 1 pick.

12) Denver Broncos: Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA

Laiatu Latu is a productive pass rusher who brings dynamic ability off the edge for any defense, and the Denver Broncos will benefit from his skill set as a result of this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.

Some believe they may try to get their quarterback with this spot, but the value doesn’t match the talent, and Denver decides to attack another needed position rather than reach.

13) Las Vegas Raiders: Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State

There are many ways the Las Vegas Raiders could go with this pick. However, they take a tackle talent, adding a quality piece to their offensive line to protect their QB. Taliese Fuaga brings some tenacity to the group as they look to create running lanes and keep their QB1 upright.

14) New Orleans Saints: Troy Fautanu, OL, Washington

The Saints add an impact offensive lineman and get much-needed protection for Derek Carr. New Orleans looks to be physical on both sides of the ball in 2024, and inserting Troy Fautanu into the mix adds another powerful piece to that puzzle that was missing in 2023.

15) Indianapolis Colts: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama

The Colts need cornerback help, and Terrion Arnold falling to them at No. 15 is something they will gladly welcome.

With coverage stickiness, smooth hips, the ability to track the ball, excellent catch-point skills, and a high football IQ, Arnold is everything you want from a CB prospect.

16) Seattle Seahawks: Graham Barton, G, Duke

Graham Barton landing here at No. 16 to the Seahawks feels like a great spot based on fit.

The former Blue Devils left tackle projects to move inside in the NFL and should be able to do so smoothly. Yet, some think Barton can play tackle, and it shouldn’t be ruled out. Either way, he’ll help the Seahawks’ OL from Day 1, wherever he lines up.

17) Jacksonville Jaguars: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

With his ability to play inside or out, the Jaguars are adding an excellent CB to their defensive backfield in Quinyon Mitchell. The Toledo talent’s rise up draft boards has been fun to watch, and while he settles in as a top-20 pick in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, it wouldn’t be a shock if he goes even higher.

18) Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

The Bengals welcome Brian Thomas Jr. and instantly add another weapon for Joe Burrow, making up for potential losses in the room with uncertainty still surrounding Tee Higgins. Landing an intriguing playmaker for their QB, who is at a pivotal point in his career, seems like an excellent move for the Bengals’ offense.

19) Los Angeles Rams: Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State

Jared Verse could easily go in the top 15 of the 2024 NFL Draft, although his stock has been sliding lately, at least publicly. Yet, the Rams recognize a talent here and capitalize on it by replenishing their pass rush with a powerful piece.

20) Pittsburgh Steelers: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Offensive tackle help for the Steelers is pivotal to their success. The Steelers grab Amarius Mims here who boasts exciting developmental potential. They could leave him at RT, his natural position, or they may feel comfortable kicking him to the left side. Either way, they get a much-needed OT talent to build with.

21) Miami Dolphins: JC Latham, OT, Alabama

The Miami Dolphins add Alabama OT JC Latham into the fold up front, an intriguing tackle whom they may not have believed would be available. This is a steal at a position of need for the Dolphins and a great landing spot for Latham.

22) Philadelphia Eagles: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Nate Wiggins could (and probably should) go sooner than this. He may even be viewed as better than some of the cornerbacks that have gone before him. However, in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, he goes to the Eagles and adds big-play ability to their aging secondary.

23) Minnesota Vikings: Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois

Tough, physical, athletic, and menacing — all words to adequately describe Jer’Zhan “Johnny” Newton. A man who plays the run well but can consistently provide pass rush up the middle is a welcomed addition to a Vikings defense that can use it.

24) Dallas Cowboys: Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

The Cowboys get their center of the future in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft. Physical, nasty, and intelligent are the best ways to describe Jackson Powers-Johnson. The standout Oregon Duck helps solidify the interior of the Cowboys offensive line, which lost its previous starter to a divisional rival at the beginning of free agency.

25) Green Bay Packers: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

Somehow, Kool-Aid Mckinstry has become a bit of a forgotten man in this CB class. Don’t be fooled, though. He can ball, and the Packers are getting a quality CB prospect to help bolster their defensive backfield.

26) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State

Chop Robinson‘s ability and experience at Penn State should translate well to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive style. He can be an instant upgrade to their pass-rush group adding another impactful piece to Tampa’s defensive front.

27) Arizona Cardinals (From HOU): Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas

For me, Byron Murphy II has bounced between late Round 1 and the second round, but here, the Cardinals grab the physical DT and add him into an already tough and aggressive defense. The fit makes sense, and Murphy should immediately step in and make a noticeable impact.

28) Buffalo Bills: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

Adding Adonai Mitchell to this Josh Allen-led offense after trading away Stefon Diggs and losing Gabe Davis feels necessary.

It’s a great situation for Mitchell. He can immediately come in and be one of the primary weapons for an excellent quarterback.

29) Detroit Lions: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa

Some consider Cooper DeJean a safety, but I think he can be a cornerback and do it all in between. While some are slowly shifting him to being a back-end roamer, I think it’s important not to pigeonhole him. DeJean adds supreme athletic ability to a Lions team that can use and max out his ability in the secondary.

30) Baltimore Ravens: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Xavier Worthy exploded onto the draft scene after his 4.21-second 40-yard dash time broke the NFL Combine record.

The blazing-fast former Longhorn would provide another much-needed weapon for Lamar Jackson as they look to reload, attack the AFC, and return to the AFC Championship Game.

31) San Francisco 49ers: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

When you are at the backend of the draft, you are at the mercy of the board. The 49ers let it fall to them and take a tackle they can build with into the future. The trenches have always been a strength for these 49ers teams, and Tyler Guyton could be an interesting piece injected into that room.

32) Kansas City Chiefs: Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State

Keon Coleman is big and physical and attacks the football. Adding the FSU wide receiver to Patrick Mahomes’ arsenal will be a big deal. The productive pass catcher should fit right into their offensive style and add a dangerous weapon to a group looking for consistent WR play.
