The career of one New York Giants legend might’ve been much different if things went as planned for the Dallas Cowboys during the NFL Draft in 1993 because Michael Strahan claims that then-head coach Jimmy Johnson promised to draft him that year.

The Cowboys were the cream of the crop in the NFL at that time, so Johnson’s promise to join a team that good right away was quite a thing for a kid coming out of college to absorb and look forward to.

Strahan recently spoke with fellow NFL legend Tom Brady and Jim Gray and admitted that Johnson made the promise to him that the Cowboys were all-in on him and would draft him in 1993 only to go in another direction on draft day, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“Jimmy promised he was going to draft me to the Cowboys,” Strahan said.

Obviously, even though Strahan missed the opportunity to join an iconic Cowboys team led by Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, he still went on to have a very successful career while becoming a direct rival to America’s Team.

The Giants ended up drafting Strahan with the No. 40 overall pick in the draft and never looked back, as he went on to become a Hall of Famer as the result of helping the team win a Super Bowl title, win NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and be named an All-Pro six times.

In the end, Strahan might’ve lucked out with the Cowboys passing on drafting him, as he went on to have a very successful career in the league, which has carried over to being very successful in his post-playing days as well.
