Gio Reyna faces setback in recovery, expected to remain sidelined until mid-November

Gio Reyna suffers setback in injury rehab, sidelined until mid-November

The woes continue for U.S. men’s national team attacker Gio Reyna.

Reyna, who previously was making progress in his injury rehab at Borussia Dortmund, suffered a setback, manager Nuri Sahin confirmed Friday. The 21-year-old is now slated to be sidelined until after the November international break.

Reyna had been out of action since suffering a groin injury on international duty in September. He missed both of the USMNT’s home friendlies against Canada and New Zealand that month.

Injuries have plagued Reyna’s time at Borussia Dortmund, forcing him out of 54 potential matches. He’s only logged nine minutes in the current Bundesliga campaign.

Reyna’s scored 17 goals and registered 17 assists in 122 combined appearances for the Black and Yellow.

Reyna’s latest injury spell will likely force him out of CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal action in November. The USMNT face Panama and Mexico this month before opening competitive play under Mauricio Pochettino in November.
