Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo did not have the services of American attacker Gio Reyna on Saturday afternoon.
Reyna missed the match after suffering a minor knock this week in training, The Athletic confirmed prematch Saturday. The Borussia Dortmund loanee is expected to return to training next week and won’t miss any significant time.
Reyna, 21, joined Nottingham Forest on loan this past January for the remainder of the English Premier League season. However, minutes have been hard to come by for the U.S. men’s national team player, who has only accumulated 38 minutes in four appearances.
Reyna had made 14 combined appearances for Dortmund prior to his move to England in January.
USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter will hope Reyna’s return is imminent ahead of CONCACAF Nations League action on March 21. The USMNT faces Jamaica in the semifinal round, seeking a third-straight visit to the tournament final.
Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 on Saturday to Liverpool, conceding a 99th minute winner to Darwin Nunez.
