USMNT and Borussia Dortmund forward Gio Reyna, who missed recent friendlies against Canada and New Zealand, will be sidelined for several weeks due to an injury. ESPN reports that Reyna sustained a groin injury during the international break, forcing him to miss playing time with his Bundesliga club as well.
His manager Nuri Şahin expressed that Reyna is “extremely sad” about the injury, adding to a series of setbacks the 21-year-old has faced in his career. Reyna is a key player for the USMNT, but his progress has been hindered by frequent injuries.
Despite the challenges Reyna’s injuries present, his USMNT teammate Christian Pulisic has shown that it is possible to overcome such obstacles and excel on the field. Reyna, alongside his trainers at Dortmund and US Soccer, will need to devise a comprehensive recovery and rehabilitation plan in order to fulfill his potential.
