Golf Fans Express Displeasure over US Open Coverage Shift to Peacock During First Round

Golf Twitter hated when US Open coverage went to Peacock in 1st round

The 2024 U.S. Open began on Thursday morning at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, with live coverage and featured groups on cable television until 5 p.m. ET. At that point, fans had to switch over to Peacock, NBC’s paid streaming service, or the U.S. Open website for continued coverage.

While there was a promise of improved TV coverage from U.S. Golf Association CEO Mike Whan, many fans were disappointed when the coverage switched to Peacock halfway through the rounds of the top three players in the world and other popular players on the course. This move sparked a negative response on social media.

Here are some reactions to the coverage switch:

– Jared Doerfler: “Shoutout to Peacock. I want to fire this app into the sun.”
– Jim: “We have to have a Peacock subscription to be able to watch the evening groups in our nation’s Golf National Open? LMAO!!! What a joke and an embarrassment.”
– Joe Arnold: “So now we have to have a Peacock subscription to watch the US Open? Wtf. Another reason golf is losing so many fans.”
– Nick Kayal: “Ridiculous that you have to stream Peacock to watch The US Open in primetime.”
– Brian Koziol: “The US Open has the top 3 players in the world playing together after most are out of work and they have no idea where to watch. They’ve buried it on Peacock.”
– Carsley Golf: “Soooo if you don’t have peacock your not allowed to watch the US Open 🤨”
– Josh Vitale: “Stop trying to make @peacock a thing. Just let me watch the golf on TV.”
– Go Phils: “‘All access coverage’ of the US Open on Peacock means there’s more commercials than golf.”
– Mike Henderson: “What’s up with TV coverage for the US Open? It’s all over the place.”
– Barry Schultz: “Why do I need to a paywall to watch #US_Open_Championship_2024 come on USGA and NBC.”
– DavidBacks2: “So I work all day, come home to watch the end of the first round and learn I have to pay to watch. Subscription TV for sports events sucks. That’s all.”
