Great Britain emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Poland in an exhilarating game at a packed Planet Ice Leeds, setting the stage for part two of the back-to-back clash tomorrow at Motorpoint Arena Nottingham (7pm face-off).

Debuting for GB, Logan Neilson and netminder Lucas Brine, backing up Whistle, showcased promising performances while Poland started strong, challenging Whistle with multiple close chances.

A nail-biting first period saw Nathanael Halbert narrowly missing, Liam Kirk creating opportunities for Sean Norris, and Logan Neilson missing the mark from the left-circle.

Josh Batch opened the scoring for GB on a short-handed break, followed by a disallowed goal for Poland due to goaltender interference and a close call from Brett Perlini on a late powerplay.

GB extended their lead with a powerplay goal as Liam Kirk found Perlini for a one-timer, and Cade Neilson set up Kirk for a third goal that rebounded off both posts before crossing the line off Murray.

Poland pulled one back late in the game through Dominik Pas’s close-range effort, but GB sealed the victory, sending the home crowd of 2,000 fans home happy.
