Greg Norman Denied Invitation to The Open Championship Despite Past Wins
Greg Norman, a two-time Open champion, has not received an invitation to this year’s Championship at Royal Troon. The R&A’s director of corporate communications, Mike Woodcock, stated that there is no record of an invitation being sent to Norman, and his name is not on the list of purchased tickets.
Norman, who is also the chief executive of the LIV Golf League, seems to have been excluded from the Ayrshire links event, reminiscent of a similar situation two years ago when he was left out of the Champions’ Dinner at St Andrews for the 150th Open.
“I don’t think there’s a G. Norman (on the list),” Woodcock mentioned at an Open media day. “I think they would have let me know if there was. So I’m not aware that he’s bought a ticket so far.
“Obviously, there are tickets still available on the resale platform or hospitality. He’s very welcome to look there.”

Greg Norman: Open Championship invitation snub strikes again
Norman attended this year’s Masters tournament as a paying member of the public to support the 13 players from the LIV Golf roster who had qualified to play in the major. In 2023, he was not invited to the Masters due to a desire to keep the focus on the competition and away from the divisions in golf.
Norman’s creation of the LIV Golf League in 2022 has sparked controversy and polarized opinions within the golf community. Although a framework agreement was reached between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund in 2023, a final deal is still pending.
The 152nd Open at Troon is set to be a 250,000-spectator sell-out, with adjustments made to the course length to 7,385 yards.
