Gressel, Vela, Robinson headline MLS free agent pool

Gressel, Vela, Robinson headline MLS free agent pool

The 2023 MLS offseason is powering through the final weeks of the year and several of the league’s top players remain available for signing.

Julian Gressel, Carlos Vela, Miles Robinson and Carlos Vela headline the 98 remaining free agents following the conclusion of the league season. All three players enjoyed positive seasons with their clubs but could very well be on the move by year’s end.

Gressel just recently lifted MLS Cup with the Columbus Crew while Vela suffered three finals defeats this past year with LAFC.

Corey Baird, Griffin Dorsey, and Nicolas Lodeiro are also among the veteran players on the market. Baird and Dorsey were both key in the Houston Dynamo’s 2023 resurgence under Ben Olsen while Lodeiro will depart the Seattle Sounders after a stellar stint there.

Thomas Hasal, Stefan Cleveland, and Clement Diop are just a handful of goalkeepers on the market this winter, seeking new chapters of their careers.

The free agency period will open on Wednesday afternoon for players who are at least 24 years old with at least five MLS service years and are either option-declined or out-of-contract after the 2023 MLS season.

Free Agents can negotiate a new contract with any MLS club, including their previous team. There is no limit on the number of Free Agents a team may sign each year.

Here is a closer look at the current pool of MLS free agents:
