Griffin Yow’s standout season with Belgian side Westerlo continued Friday with the American attacker delivering the winning goal against Standard Liege.
Yow’s sixth goal of the season proved to be the difference in Westerlo’s 2-1 Belgian Pro League triumph over Standard Liege. It marked Yow’s third goal this calendar year, which have all come in his last four appearances.
After Nicolas Madden and Konstantinos Laifis traded goals in the first half, Yow’s long-range blast after the hour mark proved to be the winner. Yow’s right-footed shot nestled into the back of the net, giving Westerlo a 2-1 advantage that it wouldn’t relinquish.
Yow, 21, led all players in duels won (12), fouls drawn (4), tackles completed (5), and dribbles completed (2) in his 84 minutes of action. The former DC United product now has six goals and two assists in 1,164 minutes of play.
Fellow American Bryan Reynolds logged 90 minutes at right back.
Westerlo sits 10th in the league standings, 10 points out of the top-six.
Up next for Yow, Reynolds, and Co. is a league trip to Sint-Truiden on Feb. 24.
