Grigor Dimitrov Is Set For Awaited Top 10 Return

After being out of the Top 10 for 260 weeks Grigor Dimitrov is set to return after his Miami Open run to the final.

Dimitrov was last ranked in the Top 10 in November 2018, which is quite a while ago. The Bulgarian’s peak came in 2017, when he finished the year as the third-best player in the world. Since then, he declined from his top level, as he left the Top 10 on November 4th, 2018. He would drop down as low as 78 in 2019 but finish the year as 20th in the world.

He kept himself in the Top 30 for the next few years until last year, when he played a pretty strong season overall with a lot of consistent results, which put him back in the Top 15. He finished the year ranked 14th and continued to do well this year.

He finally won a trophy again in Brisbane and kept his level high in the following weeks. The Miami Open has been particularly impressive as he downed Carlos Alcaraz en route to the final, which ensured his return to the Top 10.

By making the final, Dimitrov is up to 3540 points, which will put him at number 9 of the ATP Rankings ahead of Hubert Hurkacz with 3425. He has a chance to go up as high as 7th in the world should he win the trophy. He’s going to face Jannik Sinner in the final, and that’s the last player someone wants to face right now.

Still, it’s good to see Dimitrov back to his best tennis. He had 27 wins in 2022, 46 wins last year and is already up to 20 wins this year. He could finally get to 50 wins, which hasn’t happened since 2014. To do that, he will need to keep the consistent level that he has displayed over the past 12 months.
