Two of the faces expected to be in October’s U.S. men’s national team camp celebrated goals in Tuesday’s slate of EFL Championship action.
Haji Wright and Josh Sargent both scored for Coventry City and Norwich City respectively. Wright scored Coventry’s second goal in a 3-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers while Sargent scored the opening goal in Norwich’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
Wright’s right-footed shot in the 48th minute extended Coventry City’s lead to 2-0 in the second half. It marked Wright’s third league goal in his eighth appearance of the season.
The Sky Blues would add a third and final goal through Brandon Thomas-Asante’s 84th minute finish, giving them a first league victory since August 27.
Sargent, who registered two assists last Saturday against Derby County, scored from the penalty spot after 15 minutes. It marked Sargent’s third goal in his eighth appearance.
However, Largie Ramazani’s 60th minute finish handed Leeds United a share of the spoils from Carrow Road.
Norwich City sit 10th in the league table while Coventry City are 16th.
Both Wright and Sargent will aim to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s first USMNT camp next week as the Americans face Panama and Mexico in a pair of CONCACAF friendlies.
