Haji Wright nets his 19th goal of the season for Coventry City

Haji Wright scores 19th goal of season for Coventry City

Haji Wright continued his impressive season for Coventry City on Tuesday, scoring his 19th goal in his debut season in England despite the team’s 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town.

The U.S. men’s national team forward equalized in the 64th minute after receiving a pass from Kasey Palmer before Ipswich Town took the lead again through Cameron Burgess five minutes later.

Wright’s goal puts him in second place for most goals by an American forward in England’s top-two divisions since Clint Dempsey’s 21 goals in the 2011-2012 season.

Although Coventry City failed to secure a win in their penultimate match of the EFL Championship season, Wright remains hopeful for the team’s final game against QPR on Saturday.

Reflecting on the season, Wright said, “Hopefully being at home last game of the season we can win. We need to leave with a good taste in our mouth and get ready for next season.”

He also mentioned the areas where the team can improve, emphasizing the need for growth and development going into the next season.

Wright’s successful debut season with Coventry City has also earned him a place back in the USMNT picture. He played a crucial role in last March’s CONCACAF Nations League semifinal victory over Jamaica, helping the U.S. team win the trophy for the third consecutive time.

As the season finale approaches, Wright will aim to surpass the 20-goal mark in Saturday’s match.
