For the first time since New Years Day, Haji Wright celebrated a goal for Coventry City.
Wright got on the scoresheet once Tuesday night as the Sky Blues rolled past Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 to reach the FA Cup fifth round. The U.S. men’s national team forward started and played 66 minutes in the replay, registering his ninth goal of the season across all competitions.
After Kasey Palmer and Bailey Cadamarteri traded goals in the opening 10 minutes, Coventry City opened the floodgates after halftime. Callum O’Hara’s brace in a six-minute span made it 3-1 to Mark Robins’ squad after 56 minutes before Wright capped off the scoring with a confident header.
Jay Dasilva’s cross was finished off by Wright just two minutes later to give Coventry a 4-1 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. It marked Wright’s first goal in the competition and his second overall this year for the Sky Blues.
Wright has continued to be an impactful player for Coventry City this season after making his move to the club last summer. His positive haul in England could lead to a USMNT return this March for CONCACAF Nations League action.
The Sky Blues will next host Millwall on Sunday in EFL Championship action before traveling to Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City in back-to-back away fixtures.
