Haji Wright missed each of Coventry City’s last two matches and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future as well.
Wright has been suffered a tear to one of his adductor muscles, Sky Blues manager Mark Robins confirmed Sunday. Wright missed a 6-2 FA Cup win over Oxford United and Saturday’s recent 3-1 comeback EFL Championship victory over rivals Leicester City.
The U.S. men’s national team forward suffered the injury in a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough on New Years Day and is set to miss an unspecified amount of time because of it.
“Hopefully we can have him back pretty quickly, quicker than the scan results suggested,” Robins said postmatch, transcribed by the Coventry Telegraph. “They are treating the symptoms, which are minimal, if anything at all at the moment. So I am hoping that we get him back quickly.”
Wright started slow in England following his permanent move from Turkish side Antalayaspor but has picked it up for Coventry City over the last six weeks. The 25-year-old has scored three goals and added two assists since December 1, helping the Sky Blues to a 4-1-3 record over that time.
His eight goals and five assists in total are both club-highs at this time.
Coventry City’s recent run of form has helped them move to sixth place in the Championship table, which is the final promotion playoff spot in the division. The Sky Blues next travel to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday before also squaring off with the Owls in FA Cup action on Jan. 26.
