Harry Maguire to postpone decision on his Man United future until Erik ten Hag is no longer manager – Latest updates from Man United

Predicted Man United XI vs Liverpool: Marcus Rashford to play up front - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will reportedly make a decision on his club future depending on whether or not Erik ten Hag is sacked.

Ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford is far from certain following United’s extremely poor start to the 2024/25 season.

The Red Devils currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table with just 11 points gained from a possible 24.

Ten Hag has been under immense pressure to oversee an upturn in fortunes and the Dutchman got some much-needed respite on Saturday as his side came from behind to beat Brentford.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund both scored in the second half to cancel out Ethan Pinnock’s controversial opener, which came just before the break.

Amidst all this, Football Insider reports that Maguire – who is in the final year of his contract at United – is “waiting” for Ten Hag to be relieved of his duties before making a decision on his future.

According to the news outlet, “Harry Maguire will wait until Erik ten Hag is sacked by Man United before making a decision about his long-term future at Old Trafford.”

“The centre-back is keen to assess whether he will play an increased role under a new boss after Ten Hag’s exit.”

“The England international will not rush into any decisions until the manager’s future is confirmed.”

Football Insider notes that talks between Maguire and United over a new deal are yet to take place. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that there is an expectation the Red Devils will trigger the one-year extension clause contained in the player’s deal.

It’s understood that Ten Hag is “leading the push” for Maguire’s exit, which may explain the defender’s stance.

Maguire is currently recovering from an injury sustained during United’s clash against Aston Villa just before the October international break.
