Harry Maguire’s injury sidelines him for weeks – Latest updates on Manchester United’s team news and transfer updates

Match Report: FC Porto 3-3 Manchester United - Man United News And Transfer News

Harry Maguire has confirmed hen will be out of action for several weeks after picking up an injury against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Maguire posted on Instagram: “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger.”

It is another bitter blow for United, whose injury curse seems to still be in full force after a brief period of respite.

Last season was unprecedented in terms of casualties, with manager Erik ten Hag at times struggling to field a side of 11 senior players.

The Red Devils lost Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro in pre-season, with Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount following soon after.

However, as players started to return, this week has seen a new wave of calamities, with Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Noussair Mazraoui all picking up problems along with Maguire.

The England man will be bitterly disappointed as he looked to have done enough to win his place back in the side from new signing Matthijs de Ligt.

A shaky performance from the Dutchman against Porto last Thursday saw Maguire replace him at the back end of the second half, and the 30-year-old rewarded the manager with a superb headed goal in injury time to save a point for the Red Devils.

Maguire kept his place against Aston Villa on Sunday, keeping a clean sheet before hobbling off near the end of the game with what looked like a calf or shin injury.

Ten Hag is under pressure to keep his job after a poor start to the season and losing Maguire at this stage is the last thing he needed.

United now have two weeks to tend to their walking wounded before their next game, at home to Brentford on Saturday week.
