During the 2023-24 season, the Miami Heat finished with a record of 46-36, securing the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. This required them to compete in the play-in tournament to secure a playoff spot, ultimately earning the eighth seed. The team, led by Bam Adebayo, faced a tough matchup against the Celtics in the first round, resulting in a five-game series loss.
Following their playoff exit, the Heat experienced changes in their roster during the offseason. Forward Caleb Martin departed for the 76ers in free agency, leading Miami to sign Haywood Highsmith to a two-year, $11 million extension. This signing was crucial for adding depth to the team’s forward positions.

His breakout year came in 2022-23 when he established himself as a regular rotation player, appearing in 66 games and making 26 starts. Highsmith also showcased improved shooting skills, hitting a career-best 39.6% from three-point range while averaging 20.7 minutes per game.

With the departure of Caleb Martin, Highsmith is expected to take on a larger role in the upcoming season. Martin’s minutes will need to be filled, providing Highsmith with an opportunity to earn more playing time and trust from his coach. Known for his defensive prowess and scoring off the bench, the 27-year-old looks poised to make a significant impact in his fourth season with the Miami Heat.
