Heightened Worries Over Giannis and Dame’s Fitness Before Playoffs

Heightened Worries Over Giannis and Dame’s Fitness Before Playoffs

There are concerns about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s availability for Game 1 of the playoffs against the Pacers, and now his co-star Damian Lillard is also dealing with injury issues.

Antetokounmpo suffered a left calf strain on April 9 and has not been participating in team practices.

It is uncertain whether he will be able to play in at least one game of the series.

Bucks head coach Doc Rivers confirmed on Tuesday that Lillard also sat out practice due to a sore left adductor muscle, as per the team’s medical staff decision.

Rivers reassured reporters that Lillard had scans on his adductor and is “good,” but they are giving him extra rest to ensure he is close to 100 percent for the playoffs.

Lillard played through the injury in the Bucks’ loss to the Magic on Sunday.

Teammate Bobby Portis downplayed Lillard’s absence from practice, emphasizing that there is still time before the game on Sunday.

Lillard is known for stepping up his game in the postseason, averaging 30.3 points and shooting 43.2 percent from three in his last two playoff appearances.

With Giannis’ return timeline uncertain, the Bucks will need Lillard more than ever in the upcoming series.
