He’s The Best In The World Right Now

He’s The Best In The World Right Now

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Sunday March 31, 2024

After falling to Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s Miami Open final (6-3, 6-1), Grigor Dimitrov didn’t have any doubts about the status of the Italian.

In other words: don’t let the No.2 ranking fool you – Sinner’s the best player in the world at the moment.

Tennis Express

“I think at the moment clearly Jannik is playing, I mean, outstanding tennis,” Dimitrov said of the Italian, who improved to 22-1 on the season and became the first ATP player to hit three titles in 2024. “There is nothing to say to that. You see how focused he is, how determined he is, the way he’s hitting his shots, there is zero doubt, so a lot of that level, it’s extremely high up.

Asked to compare him to legends like Djokovic and the Big 4, Dimitrov hesitated. He said it’s better not to compare.

“I don’t feel the need to compare him to any other player or any player, for that matter,” he said. “I think it’s just clearly [it is] his time of prime tennis that he’s playing.”

Before he finished breaking it down, Dimitrov tossed the highest praise the Italian’s way.

“Can he play any better? I don’t know,” Dimitrov said. “He’s the one to show that. But at the moment he’s been able to really put so many matches back to back, with the same level, so all credit goes to him. And he is the best player right now in the world.”
