Holger Rune Brings Back Patrick Mouratoglou as His Full-Time Coach

Holger Rune Brings Back Patrick Mouratoglou as His Full-Time Coach

Holger Rune entered the season with a highly touted coaching team that consisted of six-time Grand Slam champion (and former coach of Novak Djokovic) Boris Becker and Severin Luthi, the former longtime coach of Roger Federer.

When that team was quickly disbanded, many wondered who the Danish talent would turn to next.

We have that answer today, as Rune announced that he will partner with Patrick Mouratoglou, the man who guided him to some of his biggest milestones on tour to date. It was the Frenchman, a former coach of Serena Williams, who was in the box when Rune swept through five consecutive Top 10 talents to claim his maiden major title at the 2022 Paris Masters.

On Wednesday Rune said he has done some serious thinking on the right fit for his team, and it was clear to him that Mouratoglou was the man.

“I am excited to resume working with Patrick,” Rune said in a statement. “With him I have achieved some of the greatest triumphs of my career so far, and I can’t wait for us to chase the next major titles together. Moving ahead, we have had good talks on how our collaboration should unfold, and we have agreed on a strong setup that creates the best conditions for my performance.”

Rune is 8-4 on the season thus far, and currently stands at No.7 in the rankings.

He announced that former Danish pro Kenneth Carlsen, who was with him at this year’s Australian Open, will remain as part of the team that also consists of data analyst Mike James.

“I am excited to start a new collaboration with Holger,” Mouratoglou says. “We have known each other since he was 13 years old and I always believed in his potential. He has high goals, and so do I for him. It is the start of a new adventure. See you guys in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami.”

Rune’s next appearance will be in the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, starting on February 26.
