Holger Rune vs Taylor Fritz: 2024 Indian Wells Open

Holger Rune vs Taylor Fritz: 2024 Indian Wells Open

Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz both looked really good at this year’s Indian Wells Open, but only one can make it to the quarterfinals.

Fritz loves to play at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, and you only need to look at his results in California to understand why. He’s had a really good time in Indian Wells over the years, and as a California native, he just feels really comfortable in the surroundings.

The court helps him, as it gives him time to properly set up, and everything just clicks. He even won this event a few years ago, proving that. Rune doesn’t have that long of a track record in Indian Wells, but he’s looked pretty decent so far at the event.

His win over Lorenzo Musetti, though, showed some flaws in his game, and they will be crucial in this matchup.

Head-to-head:

They have only played once so far, and it happened last year in Miami. Fritz was able to win that matchup in two sets, and oddly enough, I feel like the same thing will happen here.

There are a couple of reasons for that, but it mostly comes down to the American being really good on the courts in Indian Wells. He’s played well, loves the conditions, and will have plenty of time to push Rune around.

Musetti had some great success against the Dane and was inches away from winning a set against him. Fritz has bigger weapons and loves the conditions here more, so I don’t see a way he won’t create trouble for Rune.

26 Age 20
12-3 2024 W/L 12-5
243-170 Career W/L 106-67

Prediction:

That constant pressure in rallies will certainly wear down Rune over time, and I just think he won’t be able to recover. So, my prediction is that Fritz wins this match in front of the home crowd.

Prediction: Taylor Fritz to win in two sets.
