Last offseason, the New York Giants gave starting quarterback Daniel Jones a contract extension worth $160 million over four years.
It was seen by some as a questionable decision, given the fact that Jones has failed to become a Pro Bowl-level player since coming into the league in 2019, and because star running back Saquon Barkley was looking for a new contract after his current one ran out and the team used its non-exclusive franchise tag on him.
Jones is coming off a torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2023 season after just six games, and on WFAN Sports Radio, Evan Roberts pointed out that if he gets hurt again this coming season, his contract could become almost fully guaranteed for 2025.

There was plenty of pressure on Jones when the Giants took him with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft, not just because he made his way into the nation’s biggest media market, but also because he was replacing Eli Manning.
As a rookie, he showed some promise by throwing for 3,027 yards and 24 touchdowns in 13 games, but he hasn’t shown any real growth since, and his numbers have actually gone down.
In six games last year before his injury, he had only thrown two touchdown passes while having six interceptions, and New York won just one of those contests.
Now, Jones will have a potentially legitimate playmaking threat alongside him in wide receiver Malik Nabers, who was taken at No. 6 in April’s draft.
If Nabers reaches his potential, there will be no more excuses for Jones — he will have to take a big jump, or else Giants fans may call for him to be replaced.
