The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott couldn’t pull off the win at Highmark Stadium on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills humbled the Cowboys 31-10 in a matchup where all of the Cowboys’ worst qualities came back to haunt them once again.
Prescott had a passer rating of 57.7, his second-worst of the season — which is slightly better than the 51.6 passer rating he had in Week 5 when the team lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
But something all of the Cowboys’ losses have in common is that they are all road games. The team is 3-4 with road games this season.
The Cowboys average nearly 40 points during home games at AT&T Stadium. Meanwhile, they average around 21 points on the road. That is a significant point differential between home and away games, something Prescott says the focus will be on in the coming weeks.
“That’s what this next week and of preparation and these next couple of weeks are about, is figuring out what that difference is and trying to close that gap,” Prescott said.
Two of the next three games for the Cowboys are back on the road in Miami and Washington, D.C.; the quarterback said the Cowboys can’t be two different teams at home and on the road.
Could This Loss Continue To Haunt the Dallas Cowboys?
This loss could also haunt the Cowboys in the playoffs because they essentially needed to win out to have a shot at winning the NFC East or the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The Cowboys clinched a playoff berth ahead of the game with the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons’ losses. But now it is likely that the Cowboys will inevitably play on the road in their playoff journey, which is worrisome after the repeated cycle of road losses this season.
Prescott said he didn’t know ahead of the game that the Cowboys had clinched a playoff berth saying, “Didn’t pay attention to that. Don’t care to be honest.”
He added that although the Cowboys can check it off, they have other things to focus on after this loss.
Moving Forward After the Loss
But the team needs to shift its focus toward avoiding another road loss in its matchup at Hard Rock Stadium next week against the Dolphins.
The Cowboys haven’t lost in back-to-back weeks all season. Prescott says the resiliency within the personnel and coaching staff is the reason for this.
“We got men that know how to prepare, stay true to the process, not panic because things didn’t go our way for one game,” Prescott said. “I think that’s huge, and with those problem solvers, we’ll get the answers we’re looking for. We’ll close that gap and plan to come out next week continuing that.”
