Iga Swiatek put together an incredibly impressive performance to beat Dayana Yastremska in the third round of the 2025 Indian Wells Open.
Swiatek started her Indian Wells Open campaign with a very dominant win this year. She beat Caroline Garcia 6-2, 6-0, winning the last nine games of the match.
The Pole was so dominant that she had to answer questions about her dominance in matches during a press conference. The second seed explained her approach, saying that she takes every point with all seriousness, regardless of the score.
She applied that approach also in her third-round match against Dayana Yastremska. The Ukrainian recorded two impressive wins over Yue Yuan and Ons Jabeur to reach the third round, and she even beat Swiatek before.
The two met at the Billie Jean King Cup in 2019, with Yastremska winning that match 7-6(2), 6-4. Swiatek got her revenge this year when she beat the Ukrainian in Dubai, winning 7-5, 6-0.
But the Pole was even more dominant in Indian Wells. She entered the match on a nine-game winning streak in the Californian desert after ending her match against Garcia on such a streak. Swiatek extended that streak even further against Yastremska.
The WTA World No. 2 player started with a break, even though her opponent had a game point. Swiatek then held her serve and added another break. The scoreboard showed 3-0 after the first three games.
The Polish player then held her serve again and added another break to lead 5-0. She didn’t have any issues serving out the set to win it 6-0, recording back-to-back bagels in Indian Wells.
It seemed that Swiatek might be able to even win this match with two bagels, but she was certainly aware of her opponent’s qualities. Still, she continued winning game after game, and after four games played in the second set, it was 6-0 and 4-0 for the five-time Grand Slam champion.
At that point, Swiatek was on a streak of 19 consecutive games won in Indian Wells. Yastremska was finally able to stop the Pole’s incredible streak, winning a game to make it 1-4 in the second set.
Unfortunately for her, it was too late to start a comeback after losing the first ten games of the match. Swiatek had such an incredible lead that it was almost impossible to lose, and she didn’t.
Iga Swiatek won this match 6-0, 6-2, recording a similar scoreline like in her match against Garcia to reach the fourth round of the 2025 Indian Wells Open.
The two-time Indian Wells Open champion already knows the nationality of her next opponent. She will play against a Czech player, and she will learn who that will be after Karolina Muchova and Katerina Siniakova play their match.
