Iga Swiatek Voted As 2023 WTA Player Of The Year

Iga Swiatek Voted As 2023 WTA Player Of The Year

Iga Swiatek was voted as the WTA‘s 2023 Player of the Year after another successful season for the Polish player.

Entering the 2023 season, the Pole knew that it may be impossible to replicate what she did last year. At the end of the 2022 season, Swiatek was named the Player of the Year.

This year, she was voted for the award once again, and the recognition was truly deserved. In 2023, Swiatek won 68 matches, losing only 11 times, producing a sensational 86.1% win rate.

All of those wins secured her six Tour-level titles, including the Roland Garros, which was already her fourth Grand Slam title, as well as her maiden WTA Finals trophy, which secured her the world no. 1 spot.

Over the 2023 season, Swiatek won almost $10 million in prize money, and even though, this time it was without a 37-match win streak, the Polish player proved to be better than everyone else once again.

Fellow nominees for the WTA Player of the Year were Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Marketa Vondrousova, who have all won a Grand Slam title in 2023, as well as Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina, who were some of the most consistent players.

On top of receiving the award for the best singles player of the 2023 season, also Swiatek’s coach was recognized by fellow coaches on the WTA Tour.

In an award voted by WTA registered coaches, Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek’s coach, was named the 2023 Coach of the Year, even further demonstrating how good of a year the Pole had.

In 2024, the challenge will be to keep her level, as she became the first player since 2015 to win the award in two consecutive years, repeating the feat of Serena Williams, who won her fourth straight Player of the Year in 2015.
