I’m likely not gonna play past the summer

Andy Murray says he likely will not continue his career beyond this summer.

The 36-year-old three-time major champion elaborated on comments made yesterday, in which he hinted that he might only have a few months left in his career, and said that he isn’t sure when, but he’ll likely call it a day this summer.

Murray, speaking to reporters after being knocked out of the Dubai draw by Ugo Humbert, 6-2, 6-4, says he is tired of talking about his pending retirement.

“I’m likely not gonna play past the summer,” 67th-ranked Murray said, which makes it sound like Wimbledon could be his final stopping place, or potentially the US Open.

Murray, who turns 37 on May 15, has struggled to win matches this season. He dropped to 2-6 on the season, and has won two of ten overall.

Last month Murray took offense to an article by the BBC that wondered if Murray might be tarnishing his legacy by prolonging his career.

“I get asked about it after every single match that I play, every single tournament that I play, and I’m bored of the question, to be honest,” Murray continued. “I’m not gonna talk more about that between now and whenever the time comes for me to stop, but yeah, I don’t plan on playing much past the summer.”
