A few star quarterbacks in the NFL are looking for a contract extension right now, including Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins.
Tagovailoa has overcome his early career struggles to become very productive, and last season, he threw for an NFL-high 4,624 yards and earned his first Pro Bowl nod while taking the Dolphins to the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Appearing on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz asked what in the world is holding up an extension for Tagovailoa, via FinsXtra.
“What are they waiting for?” Schultz said.
🗣 Jordan Schultz on Tua Tagovailoa: “You’re staring at your franchise cornerstone, who’s 26 years old right in front of you. He’s a model citizen, he led the NFL in passing yards last year, he’s a Pro Bowler – what are they waiting for?” (@Schultz_Report, @TheHerd) #GoFins pic.twitter.com/C6Ok3t0nYS

Tagovailoa was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft but put up mediocre numbers in his first two seasons. He showed signs of improvement in 2022, and in 2023 started to look like a star in the making.
He has gotten lots of criticism, especially because he has yet to win an NFL playoff game and has had trouble defeating opponents with a winning record. But he has a very accurate arm and has made Miami into arguably the NFL’s most explosive offensive team.
Last season, the Dolphins were second in points scored and first in passing yards and total yards, and with Tagovailoa at the controls, superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill has taken his game to the next level ever since being traded to Miami two years ago.
Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and tied for the lead with 13 receiving touchdowns in 2023, and he has posted more than 1,700 receiving yards in each of his seasons in Miami after never reaching 1,400 yards just once in his first six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
If the Dolphins can improve their defense, they could become a true force in the AFC very soon.
