Insider Discloses Vikings’ Trade Offer to Patriots for No. 3 Pick

The first round of this year’s NFL Draft was electric, as we saw a record six quarterbacks get selected in the first 12 picks including each of the first three selections.

The New England Patriots selected Drake Maye with the third pick, while the Minnesota Vikings traded up one spot to No. 10 to select Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and an insider has now revealed what Minnesota offered New England to move all the way up to No. 3.

Albert Breer of NBC Sports reported that one of the reasons why the Patriots chose to stay at No. 3 and take Maye was because head coaches Brian Daboll of the New York Giants and Kevin O’Connell of the Minnesota Vikings both wanted him and that the Vikings offered No. 11, No. 23, a 2025 first-rounder, and multiple pick swaps in order to move up to No. 3.

Breer added that the offer increased a bit more while the Pats were on the clock.

It’s unsurprising that multiple teams tried all the way up until the buzzer to move up to No. 3, but the Patriots liked Maye enough to refuse all attempts to move.

For a team that needed a QB as badly as New England did, it makes sense to stay put and avoid overthinking things.

Hopefully, Maye works out better for the Pats than Mac Jones did.
